Man stabbed near downtown Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - Police are searching near the downtown Lexington area for a man wanted in a stabbing. Police say a man was stabbed several times on Dakota Street around 8:00am. The victim was reportedly in a grassy lot when he was attacked.

One woman living nearby was getting her daughter ready for school when she heard the scuffle out in the street.
"My daughter was outside waiting for the bus. And then she screamed for me, because I had just got in, to find something for her to take to school. And then she say, mom, somebody is fighting outside. And it was scary, because I've never seen something happen like that before," Lesly Mejia recalled.

The victim was taken to the hospital with multiple stab wounds. Police say the man was alert but was not talking to authorities when he was put into the ambulance. Detectives are in the process of talking to a witness in hopes of getting more information.

For now all officers can say is they are searching the Dakota Street area for a black man, between 40 to 50 years old. Witnesses told police he was shirtless, and wore brown pants.
