COVINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say a military veteran who barricaded himself inside a northern Kentucky home is now in police custody after over 20 hours.

Police say the man, whose name has not yet been released, barricaded himself inside his home with his three children on Saturday.

Authorities responded to a call about 4 p.m. about a man in emotional distress at the house in Latonia, which is less than 10 miles south of Cincinnati.

Covington Police Chief Spike Jones said Sunday morning that the man had released the children, ages 15, 11 and 6.

Authorities had been in negotiations with the man throughout the night Saturday.

Police had cordoned off an area around the home and had asked people to stay away from windows.

The standoff ended around 1pm Sunday afternoon.

Officials say the man was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center to be treated.
