MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A diamond goes missing after a crash back in January but it could soon be reunited with its owner even after all of this time.
Now this missing diamond isn't like most; while they say diamonds are often a girl’s best friend, this one is believed to be man's best friend.
This story centers around a dog named Diamond; a dog that was reported missing eight months ago but early Saturday morning, she was spotted.
“We pulled over and chased the dog for a while trying to keep traffic off her and it kept running right down the middle of Levi Road,” said Carmie Rockwell of Mount Sterling.
Diamond tried her best to dodge anyone from catching her but Carmie Rockwell was determined and after several hours, Diamond finally gave in.
“I finally asked her if she wanted to go bye bye and she got at my feet and I put the leash on her and she got in.”
Rockwell assumed Diamond was a local dog that got loose until she checked Diamond's tags and realized that this dog isn't from Kentucky-- it's from Kansas!
“They were in Topeka, Kansas and we asked where the owner was from and they said he was from Topeka. The vet said he was a semi driver and there was an accident and Diamond had got out and had been running loose since January.”
Rockwell says Diamond and her owner were involved in an accident in Kentucky eight months ago.
On Sunday, Diamond's owner was contacted in Kansas and she hopes to be reunited with Diamond as soon as possible.
But until that happens, Rockwell is taking steps to make sure Diamond doesn't disappear once more.
“We went and got a harness for her, an extra collar and a slip lead. We are going to make sure that either way she can’t get loose.”
And although it’s unclear when Diamond will be reunited with her owner, there is one certainty in this story- “She wants to go home, you can tell she wants to go, that’s all she is looking for is her owner.”
For this Kansas dog-- there's no place like home.
