Neighbors on edge after several burglaries in Montgomery County

MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (WKYT) - People living along US 60 west of Mount Sterling say they're on edge.

"It's just frightening," said Brian Spencer.

The Sheriff says there have been several burglaries in the area. Spencer says he was just down the street from a house where someone tried to break in on Saturday.

"He wasn't afraid. He wasn't scared. He just looked for an opportunity and took it," Spencer said.

Neighbors said the man ran away from the house. Deputies were in the area today trying to find out more about that incident.

"Broad daylight, nice neighborhood. What's on people's mind to cause them to want to do this?" Spencer said.

The Montgomery County Sheriff says there will be increased patrols in the area of US 60 until they find a suspect.

"It scares us. I've got two young children myself. What's going on around us?" Spencer said.

People who live here say they hope deputies catch these people before there's any violence.

"Get this problem corrected before someone gets hurt, whether it's the perpetrator or the homeowner," Spencer said.

In the meantime, they say they'll be careful.

"People need to make sure everything's locked up. It shouldn't be like that, but we have to," Spencer said.
