Perry County deputy jailers indicted in connection to inmate death

PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- We've learned two Perry County, deputy jailers now face charges in connection to the death of an inmate.

Prosecutors say the Perry County grand jury indicted both Damon Hickman and William Howell for manslaughter.

Both men work at the Kentucky River Regional Jail.

Last month, investigators say inmate Larry Trent died after being found unresponsive in his cell.

A report from the state medical examiner's office says Trent was injured from a jail beating, but an official cause of death hasn't been determined.

Howell claimed Trent got into a fight with jail workers over some things he wasn't allowed to have in his cell.
