Police: DNA links suspect to Stanford rape

STANFORD, Ky. (WKYT) Police say the DNA evidence gathered from a rape kit performed on a 92 year old woman who was raped and robbed when someone broke into her house has been tied a man who had been released from jail just days before the break-in.

The Stanford Police Chief is quoted in the Danville Advocate-Messenger saying that Kevin Higgins' DNA was found through the rape kit. He says an indictment for rape and robbery will be presented to the grand jury later this month.

Police say Higgins led officers on a car chase in a stolen vehicle back in March.

The Advocate Messenger reports that Higgins pleaded not guilty to those crimes and his case was turned over to a grand jury, but never presented for a possible indictment.

Higgins was released from jail in June, just days before a series of break-ins occurred, along with the rape and robbery in which police believe he was involved.
