Police search for thieves caught on camera stealing from Stanton hardware store

STANTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police are looking for a group of thieves who stole a trailer and pressure washer from a hardware store while employees were inside.

The burglary happened Monday evening while the store was still open. The employees at the ACE Hardware in Stanton were minutes from closing when the owner noticed the back gate was still open.

"Until the next morning I thought the boy had just forgot to lock the gate or something," Delbert Brown said. "When we go out the next morning we discover the trailer is missing, then we get to looking at the video."

Surveillance video shows how that trailer, and the pressure washer that wasn't working, disappeared.

In the video you can see a man cutting the chain on the gate then another man backs a truck up to the trailer. Both men load the washer into the back of the truck. Police say there was also a woman inside the vehicle. Brown says that truck was in his parking lot for some time on Monday, long enough for him to take notice. He believes the men were staking out the back of the store.

"Shocked you know that people have that gall," He said. "Shoplifting is one thing you know but to cut a man's gate and go in at that time."

Brown is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible.

Police say the truck they're looking for is a white Ford Ranger with an extended cab. They believe it's a 1999 or 2000 model.
Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call Powell County Dispatch at (606) 663-4116.
