Man killed in police standoff in Shelby County

SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A police standoff in Shelby County ended with shots fired and one man dead.

Shelbyville Police were attempting to serve a warrant at a home on Gray Hill Court in Shelbyville when they were met at the door by a man brandishing a gun.

State Police and Special Response Teams were called to the scene to assist, and several residents were evacuated to their homes.

A negotiator was called in to speak to the subject and attempt a peaceful resolution to the situation.

When unites attempted to gain entry into the home, the suspect fired several shots at the officers. The officers then returned fire, striking and killing the suspect.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Shelby County Coroner's office.

The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police.

The identity of the suspect has not been released.
