Projects in 12 counties receive recreation grants

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Grants totaling nearly $600,000 will go to help pay for recreational and tourism projects in 12 Kentucky counties.

Gov. Steve Beshear announced the Land and Water Conservation Fund grants Tuesday and said the Department for Local Government will administer the funds, which total $596,325.

Beshear's office said in a news release the fund is a grant matching reimbursement program for projects such as campgrounds, sports and play fields, swimming and fishing areas, boating facilities and trails.

Counties where projects were approved for the grants are Boyd, Bracken, Christian, Elliott, Green, Harrison, Henderson, Hopkins, Leslie, Magoffin, McCracken and Union.
