School says student made threats against football team

MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A Central Kentucky school district is responding to a threat made against a football team.

Mercer County Schools' 9th Grade Academy found out recently about a threat from a freshman student aimed against the entire football team. The district sent letters to all parents with students on the team.

The letter states, Wednesday morning, a school resource officer found out about a threat against the entire 9th Grade Academy football team. The school responded fast, sending out letters to parents of players, and working with local law enforcement to determine the seriousness of the threat.

"They have a lot of concern for children these days especially with everything that's happened in the past, at other schools, in different states. I really feel like they've definitely taken other things seriously that I've known about in the past, and I definitely think they would take this seriously," noted parent Allison Riley, "I have three children in this district so I would want to know just for the protection of my own children."

School leaders did not discuss with us the degree of disciplinary action they're pursuing against the student who made those threats.
