Sign calls for kidney donation

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A Winchester man faces a potentially long waiting period for a kidney donation.

But, his wife is trying to speed things up with a unique approach.

Getting his strength up is Jim McCord's focus right now as he waits for a life-saving kidney transplant.

A septic kidney stone is to blame for his need for dialysis.

He's on a transplant list, but it could take up to five years for a match.

Jim's wife of 38 years, Polly, decided to take her message to the street, 'Need Kidney for Husband.'

Instead of a "For Sale" sign or autumn lawn decorations, in the Mccord's yard sits a simple message with a phone number.

Polly's car also has a magnet on it with the information.

She says she gets stopped virtually everywhere she goes with people asking questions on ways they can help.

"I'm delighted," said Jim, who's humbled by the outpouring of support. "There's so many people out there that have called in."

He's even more amazed by his wife.

"She's just so wonderful. I had no idea she was doing this."

If you're interested in helping out, you can call the McCord's at (859) 744-7761.
