Suspected DUI crash causes Lexington power outage

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The power is out in some parts of Lexington after a crash involving a suspected drunk driver.

Lexington Police were called to Tates Creek Road and Alumni Drive around one Wednesday morning. A pickup slammed into a power pole, splitting it in half. The impact also caused the truck to flip.

The driver was not hurt. Police gave him a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer. Officers say he failed both. The driver was arrested.

The damaged police carried a major line for Kentucky Utilities. The impact of the crash knocked out power to nearly 300 customers. KU says they will have to replace the entire pole. There's no word on when that will happen, but crews spent several hours overnight working on that.

Police are set up at Tates Creek and Alumni to direct traffic in that area until the repairs are made.
