Teen accused of robbing 72-year-old talks to WKYT from jail

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - Two Clark County teenagers are behind bars charged with robbing and assaulting a 72-year-old man.

Police say 19-year-old Zaire Dudley and 18-year-old Khamari Mundy flagged down J.C. Young and when Young offered them a ride, the teens allegedly robbed him.

On Saturday night, we spoke with one of those Zaire Dudley from jail where he told us his side of the story.

“Apparently he got robbed and beat and stuff but I wasn’t a part of it. I’ve known J.C. for a minute,” said Zaire Dudley, who is one of the men charged with assaulting J.C. Young.

72-year-old J.C. Young is known around town as the owner of South Main Grocery and he’s also known for his generosity.

That trait showed itself last week when police say he pulled over to help two men flagging him down.

But things quickly took a violent turn when Winchester Police say Zaire Dudley and Khamari Mundy actually attacked Young and robbed him of $75.

“Why would I want to sit here and rob somebody that is nothing but nice to me? If he is going to give me money anyway why would I want to rob him?” Dudley asked.

Dudley says he's known Young for the past year and claims they even hung out together the day the robbery happened.

“He called me and he picked me up and we went on a ride. When he dropped me off I walked away, I have no idea what happened after that.”

And the incident that took place after Young was flagged down landed Young in the hospital and Dudley behind bars.

Dudley and Mundy are charged with first degree robbery. Both are being held in the Clark County Detention Center.
