Truck crash sparks gas leak at Lexington shopping center

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Several businesses in a Lexington shopping center are back open after a gas leak.

The Lexington Fire Department says that around 8:30 Friday morning, a truck ran into a meter at the Beaumont Shopping Center. The crash caused three separate gas leaks.

Fire crews tried to turn off the gas supply at the meter bank, but they couldn't. It had to be turned off at a remote location.

Several businesses were evacuated as a precaution.

The gas did get inside the Kroger Wine & Spirits store. After a while, firefighters were able to clear out the fumes.

There was concern that the wind would carry the gas into a nearby post office, but that did not happen.

No one was hurt.

Everyone was allowed back into the evacuated businesses around 10 Friday morning.
