The Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet put University of Kentucky Police Chief Joe Monroe on administrative assignment for a week in July, because an annual report found he did not complete mandatory training requirements.
UK spokesman Joe Blanton said in a statement Monroe was to complete the training for 2012 needed to maintain his certification as a peace officer in Kentucky. Blanton says Monroe was placed on the leave for a week in July.
Blanton says UK received a letter on July 17th from the Cabinet, and on the morning of July 18th, Chief Monroe enrolled to complete the required in-service training for the week of July 22nd. Major Paul Grant was appointed acting Police Chief while Monroe was on leave.
Last year, Monroe completed 160 hours of the required training, however, scheduling issues kept Monroe from completing the required training this year, says Blanton.
