LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Not only will this winter storm affect our weather, it's also expected to bring an ice storm to the Dallas area where the UK basketball men's and women's teams play in a doubleheader Friday night.
And fans making the trip to Texas tell us they're keeping a very close eye on the weather.
Several UK fans probably plan to flight out to Dallas, Texas in the next couple of days, but winter weather in the Bluegrass and the Lone Star state could get in their way of that doubleheader.
They are dedicated and determined even though traveling to Dallas, Texas might not be pleasant with an ice storm in the forecast. But that won't stop Big Blue Nation from making the trip.
"The timing of the game being kind of late Friday night, I'm hoping the weather has already hit there," said Todd Harris, a UK fan traveling to Texas Thursday morning. "And I'll be able to get down there by tomorrow."
Todd Harris is a UK fan and says he travels with the team as much as he can even in bad weather.
"I've been fortunate. I tend to like to follow the CATS when they play," said Harris.
He says he hopes flying out a day before the doubleheader between UK and Baylor will insure he'll get there in time.
"I think people leaving Friday, the day of the game, may have some travel problems getting down there," said Harris. "They'll be impacted more greatly than people leaving Thursday because I think they'll get a chance to get ahead of the storm."
Even with Kentucky and Texas being miles and miles apart, the weather won't look much different in either state come Friday.
"I think if anyone could leave the day before the storm hits that would probably be a good deal," said Harris.
So hopefully planning ahead and monitoring the weather will be forever in their favor.
Even our WKYT sports crews moved their flights to Dallas from Friday to Thursday to avoid possible delays the winter storm could bring.
At this time, no flights have been delayed or cancelled in Lexington or Louisville.
