UK Hospital looks to add more beds

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The University of Kentucky is looking to expand the number of beds in its hospital, to try to decrease wait times in the Emergency Room.

Our news partners at the Herald Leader report that UK will ask permission from the state to add 120 beds.

A recent study found that wait times at UK's ER average nearly 11 hours, the longest wait time in the state, and 4.5 hours longer than the national average.

The paper says the state will review UK's need and the cost of adding the new beds before voting on the issue.
