Victim shot during Versailles home invasion

VERSAILLES, Ky. (WKYT) - Versailles Police tell WKYT that a man was shot during a home invasion. They have very little to work with right now. Police say the victim told them someone came in the back door and shot him, but now he's being treated for his injuries, unable to tell them anything more.

Police say that the victim called 911 around 5:30 Tuesday morning from his Dale Avenue apartment.

"I don't know why anybody would even say a cross word to him. He's just a wonderful man," said Keith Gribbins, a family friend.

As Manley waited for an ambulance, police say he told them he was in his kitchen when someone came through the back door and shot him once in the stomach.

"It shocked me. It's not like he's a millionaire and somebody wants to break in and take anything. He's never hurt anybody. He doesn't deal with drugs and all that stuff. It just dumbfounds me. I don't know why anyone would do such a senseless thing to someone that nice," Gribbins said.

Manley's recovering at UK Hospital, but police can't interview him because of his condition. His family is hoping answers come quickly.

"They have no idea who to look for and he can't tell them. He can't tell them a description or anything. This is my neighborhood. You don't do this in my neighborhood, family or not. It makes me very upset," said Gribbins.

Police expect to be able to talk with Manley tomorrow. They say there was no sign of forced entry.
