LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (AP) - Wild Turkey has reintroduced a rye whiskey about a year after the Kentucky distiller ran short of supplies due to high demand.
The distillery near Lawrenceburg says the rye whiskey category has grown so fast that distillers have struggled to keep pace.
Wild Turkey says distillers Jimmy and Eddie Russell couldn't just turn a tap to produce more of the whiskey as the unexpected demand grew.
But now the product, Wild Turkey 101 Rye, is returning to the market after a yearlong absence. Due to limited stock, the brand will target bars and restaurants in 21 markets for the reintroduction.
Fans of the product had banded together to demand its return. Bartender Erick Castro led the charge on Facebook by creating the group "Bring Back Wild Turkey 101 Rye."
