Woman assaulted in downtown Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) Police say a man assaulted and robbed a woman in downtown Lexington.

The incident happened on Limestone Street. Police say the woman was walking to her car with her keys and wallet in hand when a man walked up to her and asked if she could drive him somewhere. When she told him no, he tried to take her wallet.

The victim, Jordan Pickering, told WKYT she put up a fight, but the man punched her in the face and got away with her wallet and car keys. She said she was lucky to have help from her friends.

"Being a girl, you take precautions against something like that happening to you," she said. "But sometimes it happens anyways. I'm lucky I had some friends take care of me and call the police for me."

Police were able to use a K-9 to track down the suspect not far from the scene of the attack. They arrested Patrick Coleman for first degree robbery.
