ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police say Brooke Justice was walking south in the northbound lane of Cranston Rd around 6:30 Saturday evening, when a truck approached in the opposite direction. Police say there were two other people walking along the other side of the road and the truck driver, Joshua Cooper saw them, but not Justice.

"The driver of the vehicle, he did see some people walking on the opposite side of the road and was trying to figure out if they needed some help and was trying to figure out what was going on. He was unable to see obviously what was coming towards him," said Kentucky State Police Master Trooper Joe Veeneman.

Emergency workers airlifted Justice to UK Hospital. At last check, police said Justice was in critical condition. Police said Justice appeared to be wearing dark clothing. They say it's important to make yourself as visible as possible.

"If you are going to be walking out in the evening, especially when it's dark, make sure that you're wearing some kind of reflective clothing," Veeneman said.
