LAUREL COUNTY, Ky (WKYT) - A Laurel County couple opened their home on Harris Road along the Knox County line to two women who said they needed to do laundry.

But the homeowners got a rude awakening in the middle of the night when Angie Bolton and Jolene Cornett broke in and tried to steal the couple's belongings.

Casey Lockhart said he got a call from his wife Christina in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

He said he never wanted to get that call.

"The first thing that is running through your mind is you have got a 6 year old son in there and you do not know what is going on or who it is. So your heart is beating a hundred miles an hour," said Lockhart.

Early Tuesday morning, Christina Lockhart woke up to find two women in her home.

The Lockharts say Bolton and Cornett had asked to do laundry the day before but when Christina saw them at her home so late, she knew they were thieves.

"Everything, my debit cards, checkbook, social security cards for me and my kids. I kind of keep too much on me," said Christina.

The Lockharts say this is not the first time this has happened.

"The thing is, two people always are together and one distracts you while the other one is taking your things," said Christina.

They stole things like a laptop, Christina's purse and even their daughter's earrings, which are worth only 50 cents.

"There is a fine line between when you go and rob somebody and when you ask for help. That is the big thing," said Lockhart.

Casey Lockhart kept the women in the front yard with a gun until the Laurel County Sheriff's Department arrived.

He said this has taught him a lesson.

"It is always there in the back of your mind but you never quite are ready for it when it happens. It is something that will hit you off guard. I will have dead bolts on everything and an alarm system and everything here by next week," said Lockhart.

Bolton and Cornett face theft charges.

The Lockharts said several of their neighbors have complained about being burglarized as well.
