High gas prices have caused some lawn care services to charge customers more for maintenance. Some businesses have even been adding a fuel surcharge to the bill to compensate for rising gas prices.
Some homeowners are fed up with the price to maintain their lawn. Instead, they are spending the money to put down a synthetic turf that requires hardly any maintenance at all.
Synthetic turf eliminates water and fertilizer use. However, some "plastic grass" does contain lead and other chemicals and can become unbearably hot in extreme heat.
On average, synthetic turf costs between $8 and $15 dollars per square foot.
