A new streetscape vision for downtown Lexington includes turning Cheapside Park into a permanent home for the Lexington Farmer's Market.
The plan for the area consists of constructing a glass pavilion which will house the market and will be ordained with curb-side rain gardens.
Additional vending space will also be available.
It will stretch from Short to Main streets. The new pavilion will also be used for Thursday Night Live, art fairs, and other cultural events.
Mayor Jim Newberry says, "These are exciting plans that will transform our downtown."
Mayor Newberry hopes that this new design will prompt more surrounding residents to take advantage of what downtown has to offer. The project is expected to be completed by 2010.

If the prices were reasonable, I would visit more often. We need something like Findlay Market in Cincinnati or West Side Market in Cleveland that's open more than 1-2 days a week with a better selection of goods at affordable prices.

The evening news report said this project will cost $18 million. That's a lot for a farmer's market.

I feel that the Farmer's Market should have a sense of entitlement because it is the livelihood of many locals. And whose pockets does the CentrePointe project fill?
