Lexington waterways are in violation to the Clean Water Act due to stormwater runoff.
A stormwater campaign begins today in an effort to educate residents of the serious water issue. The campaign includes educational television ads.
Stormwater runoff occurs when rain or melting snow flows over impervious surfaces. The water picks up litter, chemicals, or sediment and flushes the toxins into nearby storm sewers, and eventually into creeks and streams.
Beginning January 4, 2010 a small fee will appear on your Kentucky American Water bill. All households will be required to pay just over 4-dollars a month as a contribution to the water cleanup effort.

Zatoichi: Yes, I agree. I think each individual should be responsible for cleaning up Lexington's waterways rather than the government. I have no doubt that you have already cleaned up more than your share, right? ...and, undoubtedly, everybody else can't wait to step right up and do their fair share, too, am I right?? Yeah, I didn't think so. Unfortunately, because neither individual citizens nor the business community has any particular interest in cleaning things up, the only other option is the big evil government... and, no, as much as you would love to do it, I will NOT leave a polluted planet for my kids and grandkids to clean up for me. It is bad enough that I am making them pay for two wars that, to date, have accomplished nothing but put good, patriotic young Americans in their graves. Oh... and Happy Thanksgiving to you, too.
Another government TAX .. ah ..er .. I mean; fee. It's all for your own good. Suck it up and move on. The GOVERNMENT is here to help.
