Kentucky Student Ventures (KSVC) has developed a plan to for to learn about green initiatives, how to start and run a low-cost low-risk small business and to develop a business plan for a green business or a business that utilizes sustainable “green” business practices.

• Bluegrass Green Entrepreneur Program provides entrepreneurial training, work experience and assistance in writing and developing a business plan for economically disadvantaged teams, age 18-24 during an eight week program.

• Kentucky Student Ventures (KSVC) has developed a plan to for to learn about green initiatives, how to start and run a low-cost low-risk small business and to develop a business plan for a green business or a business that utilizes sustainable “green” business practices.

How Bluegrass Green Entrepreneurial Program Works

• The eight-week program will be combine classroom training with actual work experience. During the first week, participants will be in the classroom and will start the Basic Entrepreneur Boot Camp. One day will be a six-hour Environmental Literacy Class conducted by Bluegrass Pride and one day will be Basic Computer Training on word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and QuickBooks. Participants will be loaned a refurbished computer that they will get to take home for the rest of the eight week program. If the participant successfully completes the program the will get to keep the computer and be provided a color printer donated by Lexmark and provided by ConnectKentucky. During the second through seventh week, participants will have two days per week of training and work three days per week. During the eighth and final week, participants will finalize their business plan, complete a resume and finalize a personal portfolio document their experiences during the program.

• Basic Entrepreneur Boot Camp (4 days) will introduce participants to concepts and processes associated with successful entrepreneurial performance and fundamental business concepts that affect business decision-making. We will help them interact effectively with others both in person and through computers and the Internet. We will introduce economic principles and concepts fundamental to entrepreneurship/small-business ownership; personal money-management and discuss strategies needed for career exploration, development, and growth. We will introduce financial concepts and tools to access information in making business decisions. Entrepreneurs will share experiences about how to determine and satisfy customer needs/wants/expectations, meet business goals/objectives, and create new product/services ideas. Participants will be able to put the concepts, strategies, and systems that businesses implement and enforce to minimize loss through the actual sales of products and services. The participants will use math and financial skills, improve their technical literacy, learn to use a computer and the internet, develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills and work on a business plan. We will reinforce the value of Work Ethic, value of Workplace Diversity and explain Ethics and Social Responsibility.

• Intermediate Entrepreneur Boot Camp (6 days) Participants will learn: eBay for Income and Online Business Opportunities; Business Plan Development, Finance & Accounting; and Entrepreneur Presentations. Participants will be encouraged to form teams during the Intermediate Entrepreneurship Boot Camp.

• Business Plan and Technical Assistance will be provided two days per week so participants can develop a business plans. This assistance will make the business plans more viable and can benefit from seed funding. KSVC will provide this consulting and assistance to increase the number of new business start-ups and more successful and profitable businesses.

By moving beyond classroom teaching and providing real world experiences as an entrepreneur will make learning more relevant to green businesses and helps makes the connection between education, income, and prospects for the future. Entrepreneurial training, starting and managing a small business provides valuable problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

How Bluegrass Green Entrepreneurial Program Works

• Our “Green” program will unleash the entrepreneurial spirit of our and in Fayette County.

• Our program is hands-on approach, engaging and encouraging new ideas and ways of doing business or providing programs and services. will be engaged in researching, creating and implementing green business plans and entrepreneurial endeavors.

The project managed by The Kentucky Student Ventures Corporation (KSVC) a non-profit organization that works to educate, train and mentor Kentucky high school and college age students to develop and encourage entrepreneurial skills necessary to create and operate successful student-run small businesses.

* KVSC is creating the program model as well as coordinating and implementing the program. The program assesses the current “greenness” of each community in the Bluegrass Region and creates a plan for the community to “go green” utilizing teams of economically-disadvantaged youth.

* The Bluegrass Goes Green initiative was awarded to KSVC by the Bluegrass Area Development District as administrative and financial agent for the Workforce Investment Board.

* Bluegrass Area District Development District (BGADD) is a means by which local elected officials and citizens unite to provide for planned growth of their area.
