The new year is bringing higher gas prices with it.
One reason is the gulf oil spill, but it is not why you might think. Since oil companies cannot drill in the gulf, they are unable to produce enough gas to meet market demand.
That means if you want gas, you will just have to pay more.
Folks are feeling the pain.
"I hope it stops. It's getting kind of out of hand," said Rella Taylor, of Manchester.
Filling up your tank can put a serious dent in your pocketbook.
"I live in Williamsburg, so it does not help me to have to drive this far and pay that much," said Jodi Teague.
In London, you will pay about $3 for a gallon of regular gas. That's cheaper than some places in Eastern Kentucky, where it costs a few cents more.
And if you are looking for premium, that's going to cost you about $3.50 a gallon.
Prices are moving back up after taking a dip last year.
"The only reason gasoline prices dropped was the recession, the joblessness. That reduced the demand, that dropped the price, but we are on the same path. We're going to go back to four dollar, five dollar gas," said John Hoffmeister, former Shell Oil President.
A prediction that nobody wants to think about.
"It's been hard on us working people," said Taylor.
But one that likely could come true.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.07. Just for comparison, in 2008, that same gallon of gas would have cost $1.60.
