Turning your Valentine's Day green may not only be good for the Earth but affordable. Bluegrass Pride has several recommendations for making sure that treating that special someone in your life can be environmentally friendly. First instead of buying a Valentine's Day card, send one electronically. There are several websites like www.123greetings.com or www.jibjab.com to create a custom e-card and can make your sweetie smile while at work. You can also make a plantable card, one that's biodegradable and can be composted afterward. For more information on how to create one go to http://www.plantablecards.com/makeplantablepaper.html .

Another tip is to use local ingredients and products when preparing your Valentine's meal. From fruits and veggies to local wines, you can make sure it's all Kentucky Proud. Also instead of giving roses, try a potted plant. They last longer and can be planted outside when it warms up.

If you don't want to cook on Valentine's Day, visit a restaurant that plans to cut it's carbon footprint. Natasha's Bistro and Bar and Bellini's Italian Restaurant will be participating in a candlelight dinner to conserve energy. The mood lightning will not only be romantic but save energy, making it a better choice for your green Valentine's Day. You can also have a candlelight dinner at home!

Those are just a few ideas to impress your loved one and reduce your impact. For more information go to www.bgpride.org
