Lexington, KY – Kentucky women’s basketball head coach Matthew Mitchell has announced the hiring of former Tennessee standout Shalon Pillow (pronounced Shu-LON) to its coaching staff. Pillow will be responsible for the post players.

Borel Out, Mine That Bird Needs New Jockey

Last Updated: 4:51 PM 07/01/09 - Trainer Chip Woolley said Wednesday that he and jockey Calvin Borel could not agree on a long-term commitment to ride the gelding, scheduled to run the West Virginia Derby on Aug. 1. Woolley wants someone committed to ride Mine That Bird through the Breeders' Cup in November.

Henry staying at KU
Last Updated: 4:13 PM 07/01/09 - For much of the day Tuesday, it was unclear whether Kansas basketball recruits Xavier and C.J. Henry would end up in KU uniforms. But a late-night report said that Xavier would honor his commitment to the Jayhawks.

UK Seeks to move Gillispie lawsuit

Association says former Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie
has sued the wrong people and in the wrong place.
The athletics association has asked a federal judge in Texas to
either dismiss Gillispie's lawsuit over his firing or move the case
to Kentucky. In a motion filed Friday in federal court, the
association's attorneys say the school has minimum contact with the
state of Texas, giving the court there no jurisdiction to hear
Gillispie's claims. (Full Story)

In case you missed it, and I'm certain 99 percent of Americans did, two of the best thoroughbreds in history raced over the weekend. And won. Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta are two of the best ever to break from a starting gate. Unless you were tuned to TVG or HRTV, you had little chance to see the two most-talented horses currently racing. UK coach John Calipari said he didn't anticipate adding another player to next year's Wildcat roster. Calipari made the comments on Saturday morning, moments after participating in the UK women's basketball's "5K for 5 K" run. Calipari was the race starter. (Read Blog)
