LCA falls short in first football finals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Ryan Amelung ("AM-eh-lung") returned a
kickoff and a punt for touchdowns to lead Beechwood to the one-A
state title, 38-35, over Lexington Christian.
Today's win in Louisville's Papa John's Cardinal Stadium gave
the Tigers their tenth state title.
Tommy Bankemper rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns for
Beechwood, which outgained Lexington Christian 111 yards to 40 on
the ground.
Sophomore Domonique Hayden rushed for three touchdowns for
Lexington Christian and quarterback Lucas Witt passed for 290 yards
and two TDs with three interceptions. The Eagles outgained
Beechwood 330 yards to 219 in the highest-scoring Class A final in
state history.
