Legion headed to Illinois

Former UK player Alex Legion has a new home. According to the Chicago Tribune, the freshman guard has chosen to transfer to Illinois. Legion was also considering Notre Dame.

According to the story, Legion cited the presence of new assistant coach Jerrance Howard as a factor in his decision. Howard moved to Kentucky from Texas A&M with Billy Gillispie. Howard was hired by Illinios coach Bruce Weber to replace Tracy Webster, who was hired by Gillispie at UK.

Under NCAA rules, Legion must sit out a year before becoming eligible to play at Illinois. Legion played in six games at UK, averaging 6.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.5 minutes per game.
