EKU drops third straight OVC game

RICHMOND, Ky. – Daniel Northern and Anthony Fisher combined for 44 points to lead visiting Tennessee Tech to a 75-64 victory over the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team Saturday night in McBrayer Arena. The Golden Eagles (5-10, 2-3 OVC) ended a three-game losing skid and handed the Colonels (6-8, 3-3) their third straight conference defeat.

The first half was close throughout, featuring four ties and six lead changes. Tennessee Tech held the largest advantage of the half, 20-15, but Eastern Kentucky took a 34-32 lead into intermission thanks to connecting on 6-of-12 (50 percent) three-point attempts.

A three-pointer from sophomore Josh Daniel put the Colonels ahead by eight points, 50-42, with 12:55 remaining in the contest. Tennessee Tech slowly chopped away at the deficit and regained the lead when a Fisher layup made the score, 58-57, with 5:55 left. From there, the Golden Eagles scored on nine straight possessions while putting together an 18-5 run to secure the victory.

Tennessee Tech shot 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the floor in the second half. On the other hand, Eastern Kentucky netted just 2-of-13 (15.4 percent) three-point shots in the final 20 minutes.

Northern’s 22 points were a career high. The junior center also added a game-high 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Meanwhile, Fisher posted five assists to go along with his 22 points.

Four Colonels finished in double figures led by junior Mike Rose’s 16 points. Senior Darnell Dialls shot 70 percent (7-of-10) for the game and chipped in with 14 points.

Eastern has a few days off to prepare for OVC rival Morehead State on Jan. 10. The Colonels have won three straight meetings at Morehead.
