Dunlap Receives Third SEC Honor

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky’s Victoria Dunlap (Nashville, Tenn.) was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the league office in Birmingham, Ala., announced Monday. Dunlap received the honor after charting 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal in UK’s 59-54 win over Ole Miss last week.

Dunlap, a 6-1 forward, went 6-of-8 from the floor vs. the Rebels and was one of three Wildcats in double-figures. She grabbed UK’s second-highest rebound total with nine, just one rebound shy of a double-double.

Her rebounding effort helped UK record its largest rebounding margin this season at +16 (47-31). She also dished out a career-high three assists in the win.

Dunlap has started in all 23 games this season and ranks third on the team in scoring (7.8 points per game). She is second on the squad in rebounding with 6.3 rebounds per game but is tops in SEC play, averaging 6.7 rpg (11th in the SEC). She also leads the team in steals with 34 on the year.

This is the third year the SEC has recognized a Freshman of the Week award. The weekly award marks UK’s fifth SEC Freshman of the Week, its fourth this season.

Junior Carly Ormerod (Louisville, Ky.) received the honor twice during the 2005-06 season and freshman Amber Smith (Winter Haven, Fla.) was named SEC Freshman of the Week earlier this season on Dec. 31, 2007. Dunlap also received the award on Nov. 28, 2007 and Jan. 14, 2008.

After a much-needed weekend off, the Wildcats (12-11, 6-3 SEC) head to the Music City for their next game on Feb. 14 vs. Vanderbilt (18-6, 7-2 SEC). Game time in Nashville, Tenn., is 8 p.m. EST.

The Cats will return to Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, Feb. 17 to “Think Pink” vs. Alabama at 1 p.m. EST. Fans wearing Pink can purchase a general admission ticket for just $1 while supplies last.

The “Think Pink” initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. All of UK’s coaches, players, and staff will be donning Pink to help raise money for breast cancer research. All single-game ticket sales will be donated to UK’s Markey Cancer Center.
