Samford squeeks by EKU, 74-73

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Travis Peterson scored a game-high 26
points and Samford managed to hold off Eastern Kentucky and take a
74-73 victory Saturday night.
Samford (12-14, 9-9 Ohio Valley Conference) started off slowly
but took the lead at the midway through the first half and held
onto it for the rest of the game.
The Bulldogs led by as much as 13 points during the game and
went into the half ahead 23-16, but Eastern Kentucky (13-12, 10-7)
steadily chopped away at the deficit.
The Colonels were down by seven points with less than a minute
to play and came within one on a 3-pointer by Justin Stommes at the
buzzer.
Trey Montgomery scored 17 points for Samford, which shot 57.9
percent for the game.
Eastern Kentucky was led by Darnell Dialls with scored 25 points
and Mike Rose followed closely behind with 23.
