Baseball Cats Back in Action Thursday

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- After opening up its home slate with a 15-5 pounding of Oakland on Tuesday afternoon, the No. 17 Kentucky baseball team returns to its two-game Oakland series on Thursday, facing off with the Golden Grizzlies at 4 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Kentucky (4-0) enters the game Thursday after pummeling Oakland in an come-from behind effort on Tuesday. Trailing after three innings, UK exploded for a nine-run sixth inning to take firm control of the game. Highlighting the game was a 3-for-3 day from sophomore transfer Troy Frazier, which also included five RBI, and freshman shortstop Chris Wade’s first career home run.

The Wildcats opened the 2008 season on Feb. 23-24 at the Coca-Cola Classic in Mobile, Ala., the 23rd annual meeting of the season-opening, round-robin tournament. UK sweep through the four-team field, taking the championship game from South Alabama on Sunday, 10-3, a game that included a three-run home run from preseason All-American Collin Cowgill, who was named the Coca-Cola Classic Most Valuable Player.

After the weekend performance, UK, which was ranked as high as 20th in the preseason, moved up to 17th on Monday.

Fans can catch the action live Thursday on the Big Blue Sports Network (radio), with the “Voice of the Wildcats” Neil Price calling the action, on Lexington station, WXRA 1580-AM.

Ticket holders can redeem their tickets from the originally scheduled Oakland game on the 27th for entry into Thursday’s contest.

After the Oakland series resumes on Thursday, UK will welcome Butler in for a four-game weekend series that will include a double-header on Saturday. First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m. ET, at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
