Lexington Catholic Punches Ticket to State Tournament

Jordan Smart scored 24 points, while Nathan Novosel and Taylor Stewart added 19 apiece, as Lexington Catholic claimed the 11th region championship with a 79 - 63 win over Bryan Station.

The Knights jumped out to a 20 - 10 lead after one quarter and maintained a seven point advantage at the half. Lexington Catholic then scored a game-high 24 points in the third quarter to put the game away.

Montell Monores led the Defenders with 26 points. Shelvin Mack was held to just six points on three-of-nine shooting.

Meanwhile in Mount Sterling, both Mason County and Montgomery County moved on to the 10th region title game with convincing wins on Tuesday. Montgomery raced out to a 25 - 7 lead after one quarter and never looked back en route to the 21-point win.

Nic Hendrix led the Indians with 17 points. E.J. Murray had a team-high 14 for Scott.

In Morehead, the 16th region's championship game is set after East Carter beat Ashland and Elliott County turned away Rose Hill.

After grinding out a 7 - 6 lead after one quarter, East outscored Paul Blazer 19 - 8 in the second period to claim a 26 - 14 lead at intermission. The Tomcats held tough but could not regain the lead as East finished the game on a 15 - 11 run.

In the nightcap, defending champion Elliott County overcame a nine-point first half deficit to beat Rose Hill, 67 - 60. Elliott outscored the Royals 19 - 4 in the second period and would not relinquish the lead.

Twin brothers Ethan and Evan Faulkner led Elliott County with 18 and 15 points, respectively. The duo also combined for 13 assists while committing just two turnovers.

UK recuit Dakotah Euton led Rose Hill with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Chad Jackson finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
