Elliott, Mahoney named honorable mention All-SEC

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Seniors Sarah Elliott (McKee, Ky.) and Samantha Mahoney (Detroit), who helped the Wildcats receiver their school-record fourth consecutive bid to postseason play, were named honorable mention All-SEC released today by The Associated Press.

Elliott, a 6-6 senior center, currently is second on the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 10.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. She is No. 8 on UK’s all-time scoring list with 1,486 points and is fourth on the rebounding list with 790. She holds the school record for blocks in a career with 183 and has charted 44 this season, the most for a Wildcat senior in a single season.

Mahoney is Kentucky’s leading scorer and is just one of two players (Victoria Dunlap is the other) to start in all 30 games this season. The 5-10 guard averages a squad-high 13.1 ppg and has scored in double-figures in all but 10 games. She has climbed to No. 5 on UK’s all-time scoring list with 1,546 career points and is just 17 points shy of the No. 4 spot held by Sara Potts with 1,563 points.

The Wildcats will meet the winner of Middle Tennessee State and Western Carolina Friday, March 21 in the second round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. Game time is 7 p.m. EST in Memorial Coliseum.

Reserved seats for the WNIT are $10 each (all ages). General admission seats are $10 for adults and $4 for youth/seniors (18 & under, 65+). Tickets for UK Students are $4 each with a valid student identification card and must be purchased at the ticket office.
