Krystal Ellis poured in a career-high 40
points to lead Marquette to a 69-64 win over Kentucky in the WNIT
quarterfinals on Sunday.
Ellis knocked down five 3-pointers and went 13 of 14 at the
free-throw line for the Golden Eagles (19-14), who will play either
Texas Christian or Colorado in the semifinals later this week.
Angel Robinson added 13 points and four rebounds for Marquette,
which won despite shooting just 38 percent from the field and
turning the ball over 18 times.
Samantha Mahoney led the Wildcats (17-16) with 15 points and
Victoria Dunlap added 14 points and 10 rebounds for Kentucky.
Marquette led 36-31 at the half, a lead that grew to 15 with
less than 12 minutes to play. Kentucky scrambled to get back in it,
holding the Golden Eagles without a field goal over the final six
minutes, but couldn't overcome 20 turnovers.
