Horsemen Defeat Iowa 43-41

Lexington quarterback Eddie Eviston threw for 251 yards with five touchdowns and the Horsemen overcame a nine-point second-half deficit to escape Wells Fargo Arena with a 43-41 win against the Iowa Barnstormers on Monday evening.

The Horsemen (2-1) trailed Iowa (0-2) 32-23 early in the fourth quarter, but Lexington out-scored the Barnstormers 20-9 in the game’s final six minutes with three touchdowns during that span to take the victory.

“This was our first road game this season and our first time in a hostile environment,” Lexington head coach Mike Harmon said. “I thought we responded and played well together tonight. I am really proud of the job we have done defensively. Our guys do a really good job of communicating and working together.”

Eviston completed 15-of-30 passes for 251 yards and threw five scoring strikes. It marked the 10th time in his Horsemen career and the second time this season that he has thrown five or more touchdown passes.

Lexington wide receiver Tavon McGee caught five passes for a career-high 116 yards with three touchdown catches.

The Horsemen posted four intereceptions in the game.

Lexington returns to action Friday when it travels to Youngstown, Ohio, to face Mahoning Valley. Kick-off is slated for 7:05 p.m. EDT.
