UK guard Derrick Jasper told the San Luis Obispo Tribune he is considering a transfer from UK. Jasper said he wants to be closer to home.

“I want to get closer to my family,” Jasper told The Tribune on Thursday, during a phone interview from Lexington. “I’m kind of homesick, playing here in Kentucky, and I have been thinking about transferring to a West Coast school so that my family can attend more of my games.”

The story reported Jasper is considering three schools. Jasper declined to name the schools.

Jasper also said he missed playing point guard. Jasper played the point under then-coach Tubby Smith, but because of a knee injury, watched Ramel Bradley play point guard under new coach Billy Gillispie.

this is america,we have freedom.give him a break,if he wants to be closer to his family so be it.he is more of a contributor than you think.i think he is a pretty good ball handler, plus he gets quite a few rebounds.if he leaves i will miss his contributions, thank you.

Then Jasper needs to shut up and leave. He hasn't been of much value to UK so they will have a slot available to recruit someone good.

Go back home to mommy. Never contributed much to the game any ways. You are not the only one that has ever left home so stop your whining and go home. There's more fish in the sea than one. You will be easily replaced by some outstanding young man that wants to play for us. And he will play his heart out. Being a Kentucky Wildcat has always been some young boys' dream and now they can have that chance by sending little whiny babies home.

Enough! Get out of here! I understand transfering if the eductaion isn't good enough or what was expected, perhaps even a lack of playing time and the coach has told you pad your shorts for the pine, but when you make a commitment to a university, any university, and then want to back out because you're homesick? Enough already. These players are basically being paid to play through a scholarship. Are they forced to pay back the value of the time they wasted for the university? With all the rules the NCAA has to protect the poor players, perhaps some regulation into player commitments should be examined to protect the university that pledges academics and accomodations. The one year sit out rule for transfer is a good start, but how about penalties to pay back the university for the services not realized while the player daydreams about another school or proximity to their family? Lets concentrate on getting good players that want stay at UK. This as a good scholarship opening!

By Jasper and hope you have a great 2 years. I don't think you really know the program you have been playing for. Just remember when we cut the nets down in two or three years, ask yourself what did I do? We have the right coach and the players coming back. We you would be player returning.
