Madisonville's Jon Hood became the fifth player in the last two weeks to commit to play basketball at Kentucky. Hood, a 6-foot-6 junior, had offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Mississippi.
The senior-to-be is rated by rivals.com as the 7th-best shooting guard in the class of 2009. Last season at Madisonville, Hood averaged 23.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. Hood had four triple-doubles and threw down 34 dunks in 25 games.
Hood broke his wrist late in the season and missed Madisonville's postseason.
Hood's commitment is just the latest for UK coach Billy Gillispie. In the past eight days, Gillispie has picked up commitments from junior-college big man Josh Harrellson, Indianapolis sophomore Dominique Ferguson, California eighth-grader Michael Avery and Ohio freshman Vinny Zollo.
