Curln Breezes At Churchill Downs, Could Race Saturday

Reigning Horse of the Year Curlin breezed
through a half-mile at Churchill Downs on Monday, and could make
his debut in a turf race this weekend.
Curlin covered the distance on Churchill's main track in 50.8
seconds under exercise rider Carlos Rosas. Trainer Steve Asmussen
said he anticipates the 2007 Preakness and Breeders' Cup Classic
winner to run in either the Man o' War Stakes at New York's Belmont
Park or the Arlington Park Handicap in Chicago on Saturday.
Curlin is coming off a victory in the Stephen Foster Handicap on
June 14, and is undefeated this year. Asmussen said Curlin is being
pointed to the Prix de l'Arc de Triopmhe in Paris on Oct. 5
provided he runs well on the turf.
Just where Curlin will run this weekend depends on whether
licensing issues are resolved. Asmussen said he expects to hear
from racing officials in New York or Illinois sometime this week.
