LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A subcommittee of the Kentucky Horse
Racing Commission unanimously recommended an anabolic steroid ban
in horse racing Wednesday.
The recommendation closely mirrors the national model rule
proposed by the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium. At least
10 states have approved the model steroid rule, though Kentucky has
remained a high-profile holdout.
The recommendation will go to the Kentucky Equine Drug Research
Council, which could edit the language of the proposal before
sending it to the commission for consideration. KHRC executive
director Lisa Underwood said she hopes a steroid ban will be on the
agenda at the next meeting, on Aug. 25.
