LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie
says star center Patrick Patterson's recovery from an ankle injury
is well ahead of schedule.
A stress fracture in Patterson's left ankle cut his freshman
season short in late February. Gillispie said Thursday that
Patterson has been running on a treadmill in a therapeutic pool
inside the school's practice facility and could be back on the
court as early as next month.
Patterson averaged 16.4 points and 7.7 rebounds for the Wildcats
last season as Kentucky overcame a rough start to finish 18-13 and
qualify for the NCAA tournament for the 17th straight season.
Gillispie also said Thursday the school will likely not fill the
equipment manager position. The position has been vacant since the
death of longtime manager Bill Keightley, who passed away in March.
