EKU adds third freshman to basketball roster

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team recently signed its third incoming freshman to the 2008-09 Colonel roster – Jorge Camacho.

Camacho, a native of Henosello, Mexico, spent the last two seasons playing high school basketball at Archbishop Riordan in San Francisco, Calif. The 6-7 forward averaged 19.1 points and 12.6 rebounds per game as a senior on his way to earning San Francisco City Player of the Year honors. Under head coach Rich Buckner, Camacho totaled 21 double-doubles and helped the Crusaders win the Central Coast Section Division III title with a 21-11 record. Camacho also played AAU basketball with the Bay Area Hoosiers.

“We are really pleased to add Jorge to our program,” Eastern Kentucky head coach Jeff Neubauer said. “He is a very personable and likable young man. On the court, we hope that his court sense and understanding of the game add quite a bit to our team.”

The addition of Camacho brings the 2008-09 men’s basketball recruiting class total to six players. EKU has also signed Cordaro Ellis (6-8 forward from Lynchburg, Va.), Dayvon Ellis (6-0 point guard from Elgin, Ill.), Joshua Jones (6-4 guard from Indianapolis, Ind.), Mike Lewis (5-9 guard from Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Papa Oppong (6-4 guard from Toronto, Canada).

The Colonels begin official practice for the upcoming season in mid-October.
