Lexington, KY (September 24, 2008) – Keeneland announced today that it has cataloged a record 5,709 horses for its annual November Breeding Stock Sale, scheduled for November 3-17.
Catalogs for the November Sale – the largest Thoroughbred auction of its kind in the world – will be available on-line at Keeneland.com beginning Wednesday, October 1. Print catalogs will be mailed the week of October 13.
Sessions begin daily at 10 a.m. ET. Keeneland will provide live coverage of the entire 15-day sale on its website.
The total number cataloged for November 2008 exceeds last year by 294 horses, and includes 2,267 broodmares, 2,893 weanlings, 542 horses of racing age, and seven stallions.
“Keeneland November’s catalog is unmatched in terms of stakes-winning and stakes-producing fillies and mares, as well as weanlings by some of the hottest stallions around,” said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales. “Such a deep pool of quality individuals draws the largest group of domestic and foreign buyers in the world.”
Mares in-foal to 278 different stallions will be offered, including such established sires as A. P. Indy, Awesome Again, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Forestry, Ghostzapper, Giant’s Causeway, Gone West, Indian Charlie, Mr. Greeley, Lion Heart, Medaglia d’Oro, Montjeu (IRE), More Than Ready, Pulpit, Seeking the Gold, Smart Strike, Smarty Jones, Songandaprayer, Speightstown, Storm Cat, Street Cry (IRE), Tale of the Cat, Tiznow, and Unbridled’s Song, , among others.
Also cataloged are mares in foal to such promising young sires as After Market, Any Given Saturday, Bernardini, Bluegrass Cat, Corinthian, Daaher, Discreet Cat, English Channel, First Samurai, Hard Spun, Invasor (ARG), Lawyer Ron, Scat Daddy and Street Sense, among others.
Weanlings representing many of the world’s premier sires, such as A.P. Indy, Afleet Alex, Awesome Again, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, El Prado (IRE), Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Forestry, Fusaichi Pegasus, Galileo (IRE), Ghostzapper, Giacomo, Giant’s Causeway, Gone West, Indian Charlie, Lion Heart, Kingmambo, Medaglia d’Oro, Mineshaft, Monjeu (IRE), More Than Ready, Mr. Greeley, Proud Citizen, Pulpit, Rockport Harbor, Seeking the Gold, Smart Strike, Smarty Jones, Speightstown, Storm Cat, Street Cry (IRE), Tale of the Cat, Tapit, Tiznow, Unbridled’s Song, among others, will be featured.

The November Sale counts among its graduates such 2008 stakes winners as Beverly D (G1) winner Mauralakana (FR), Molly Pitcher (G2) winner Hystericalady, Whitney (G1) and Massachusetts Handicap winner Commentator, Etisalat Godolphin Mile (G2) winner Diamond Stripes, Donn Handicap (G1) winner Spring At Last, Diana Stakes (G1) winner Forever Together, Amsterdam Stakes (G2) winner Kodiak Kowboy, and Illinois Derby (G2) winner Recapturetheglory.
Last November’s auction was highlighted by the sale of Group 1 stakes winner Playful Act (IRE) for a world-record $10.5 million. John Ferguson purchased her on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum from the consignment of Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent for the dispersal of the Robert Sangster family’s Swettenham Stud. A total of 39 horses sold for $1 million or more, contributing to a November Sale record gross of $340 million.
