MOREHEAD, Ky. - Sophomore quarterback Evan Sawyer had 281 yards in total offense and junior halfback Jerrod Pendleton scored three touchdowns to lead Morehead State to a 36-21 college football win over Saint Francis (Pa.) Saturday (Sept. 27) afternoon at Jayne Stadium.
Sawyer hit 15-of-29 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 74 yards on 12 carries. Pendleton scored on runs of one and three yards and caught an 11-yard scoring pass from Sawyer. Senior halfback Erick Fitzpatrick rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown and caught a team-high four passes for 55 yards. Senior wide receiver/return specialist Nick Feldman had 203 all-purpose yards. He had one rushing attempt for 29 yards, caught one pass for 42 yards and a touchdown and returned nine punts for 132 yards. Senior Mason Webb kicked a 39-yard field goal, averaged 39.4 yards on seven punts and had three punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
The Eagle defense held Saint Francis to 210 yards in total offense, including only 33 rushing yards on 23 attempts. SFU quarterback George Little passed for 177 yards and all three Red Flash touchdowns. Omar Winston caught five passes for 60 yards and touchdown. Anthony Howze caught an 86-yard scoring bomb, and Ryan Zarnich had a five-yard touchdown reception.
Defensively, MSU junior linebacker Wes McDermott had eight total tackles and junior Andrew Doan had seven total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. For SFU, linebackers Matthew Parker and Scott Lewis had 13 and 12 tackles, respectively.
MSU led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter and 20-7 at halftime. The Eagles stretched their lead to as many at 22 points, 36-14, in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles will play host to Davidson, a 38-35 winner over Jacksonville on Saturday, on Oct. 4. Kickoff at Jayne Stadium will be 1 p.m. EDT.
