Cats think turnovers key to beating Gamecocks

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Turnovers may prove to be the X-factor if
Kentucky hopes to beat South Carolina.
Coach Rich Brooks stressed Thursday that his team's ability to
cause turnovers while limiting its own will be critical if the
Wildcats (4-1, 0-1 Southeastern Conference) want to snap a 15-game
losing streak to Steve Spurrier.
Brooks said his team accomplished at least half that objective
during last week's 17-14 loss to No. 2 Alabama. The Wildcats forced
three turnovers but failed to turn them into points as the offense
struggled to move the ball.
Brooks said the Wildcats' task against the Gamecocks (4-2, 1-2)
will be just as difficult. Brooks called South Carolina's defense
the toughest in the SEC and said it will have to be followed
closely to limit amount of pressure put on Kentucky quarterback
Mike Hartline.
