“Our staff made a very concerted effort to sign young men from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. We signed 6 student-athletes from Louisville and we are very pleased with that. These young men will have the ability to make an immediate contribution to our university community and have an immediate impact on the football field. I want to commend our coaching staff for the time and effort they invested in getting this class of young men signed. This group of young men will have the ability to get a great education and continue to improve the competitiveness of our football program. The three transfers are outstanding additions to our program that we expect to make an immediate impact on our football team. We will add a few more to our signed list in the coming days that were unable to get signed letters faxed in today because of the weather. We still have a little recruiting left to do because of how we have been affected by the weather and the fact that our state is currently in a state of emergency due to snow and ice. I hope to finish in the Chicago, Cleveland and St. Louis areas in the next few weeks. I believe we are on the right track and this group of student-athletes will continue to build on the foundation of success our previous student-athletes have built at Kentucky State University,” said Head Coach Fred T. Farrier.

Kentucky State will be entering the fifth season with Fred T. Farrier as head football coach. The Thorobreds enjoyed consecutive winning seasons in his first two seasons as head coach and his win total of 13 in his first two seasons as head coach is the most wins of any head coach in school history during their first two years as head coach. He is currently tied for 6th on the all-time list of wins at Kentucky State. The 2008 season was highlighted by 3 first-team All-SIAC selections, 3 second-team All-SIAC selections and 1 All-SIAC academic selection and wins against Stillman College in the Gateway Classic and a win against Central State in the renewal of the longtime rivalry between the two universities. Kentucky State opens the 2009 season on August 29, 2009 in Alumni Stadium against Stillman College on the campus of Kentucky State University.
