BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Montgomery County's Mackenzie Lee hit
a layup with 1 second remaining to lift the Lady Indians to a 35-33
win over Christian Academy of Louisville in the opening round of
the Girls Sweet 16 state basketball tournament.
Lee finished with eight points, five rebounds and three steals
as Montgomery County (28-3) moved on to face Iroquois in the
quarterfinals on Friday. Iroquois beat Franklin-Simpson 42-36 in
overtime earlier Wednesday afternoon.
Elizabeth Prewitt added eight points for Montgomery County,
which nearly blew a six-point lead in the fourth quarter. Christian
Academy (25-5) took a 31-30 lead with 4:06 left before Montgomery
County's Annie Garland drilled a 3-pointer. The Lady Centurions
managed to tie the score at 33 with 1:15 to go before Lee's
Antonita Slaughter led Christian Academy with 14 points, five
rebounds and three assists.
